Tips to Prevent Dehydration



1. Increase your fuild intake. Some healthy options are -

-Butter milk (Chhaachh)- prefrrably salty as sweetened buttermilk tends to cause heaviness in stomach. It is rich in nutrients and helps in digestion.

-Coconut water-rich in potassium and other electrolytes, low in calories.

-Sattu (mix of roasted chana and jau in powdered form)- helps to keep the body cool and rich in fibres and nutrients. Very healthy.

-Bel Sharbat- Another powerful summer cooler. Has anti- microbial and anti-inflammatory properties, helps in relieving the constipation.

-Aam panna- rich source of vitamin C, prevents heat stroke.

-Lemonade(Shikanji)- People with low blood pressure should use white table salt instead of rock salt (kala namak) as it helps to maintain the blood pressure.

2. Avoid fruit juices as sugar content in them are high and they are devoid of any fibre content. Instead eat fruits.

3. Emphasize on home-made drinks instead of packaged drinks and colas.

4. Limit the intake of tea/ green tea to 2 cups only as they tend to dehydrate your body.

5. Limit the alcohol intake as it also has dehydrating properties.

6. Include curd in your meals.

7. Eat the seasonal fruits like watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, Armenian cucumber (kakdi). They have very high water content.

8. Take light meals. Avoid oily n spicy foods.

9. Drink plenty of water.

10. Carry water bottles while exercising or going to market to keep yourself hydrated.

11. Use umberella while stepping out in sun.

12. If you are suffering from diarrhoea/vomiting due to dehydration-

- Avoid milk and sweets. It will aggravate the condition.

- Take Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) 3-4 times a day.

- Avoid these lentils- chana,urad,rajma.

- Avoid fruits like watermelon, cucumbers,muskmelon.

- Do not eat eggs, chicken or meat.

- Eat light meals like khichdi, curd-rice,dalia.
